Geometric Optics
Materials:
protractor Power supply (or battery)
flashlight with narrow slit meter stick
glass rod face powder
solid clear cylinder small paper disk
Transparent ruler pencil
Miniature light bulb
protractor
flashlight with narrow slit
glass rod
solid clear cylinder
Transparent ruler
Miniature light bulb
Laser
Graphing Paper
Prism
Clear plastic ruler
Holder for light bulb
Semicircular transparent chamber filled with a slightly cloudy liquid
Pictorials:
Results and discussions:
The light from the light bulb spreads around its bulb while the laser light did not spread out, it goes out in a straight line. The following activity, the red laser light when it was incident on the prism, the refracted that comes out from it is a rainbow. The light was refracted and reflected because of the medium that it hits which a transparent flat plane. Ray optics is also called geometrical optics as it uses the geometry of straight-line paths (rays) to explain the optical phenomena. The law of reflection states that light is known to behave in a very predictable manner. If a ray of light could be observed approaching and reflecting off of a flat mirror, then the behavior of the light as it reflects would follow a predictable. In the preceding activity, the white light produced rainbow because of dispersion.
Conclusion:
Light has so many properties, how it distributed, how does the medium affects the angle of light, how light undergo.
